Generation X

Our generation has grown up, not knowing any better than to be dependent on technology. Given an ipad at age 4, or a phone when they are 8, we have grown up surrounded by this technology.

The only technology I had was an iPod nano I received one Christmas when I was eight. Although I do express a concern for teenagers over the age of 13, I am more worried about the younger kids who were born into a surplus of technology. They have aged with an electronic device constantly in hand. As new apple products are developed, the price of the old ones are decreasing, making them more popular and easily accessible among young kids.

The younger portion of my generation has grown up not knowing the severe consequences of addictive technology and will ultimately become a generation solely dependent on it. As technology advances, I fear for future generations. The problem can only get worse from here.

Limit screen time for younger kids and instead allow them to enjoy their childhood while it lasts, because it won't last long. Instead of spending all their time on technology, they should use their imagination and embrace being young in order to foster memorable moments. Start teaching kids now to live in the moment. Life is fragile and we should live everyday to the fullest, rather than spending it on our screens.

So ask yourself: If you spend a whole day watching TV, Netflix, Snapchat stories, or Instagram posts...are you living your life to the fullest? If the answer is no, be proactive by putting away the screens and changing the course of your day, because you only get to live it once.
